We are pleased to announce that our CEO Dr. Shreya Sarkar-Barney was awarded the Scientist-Practitioner Presidential Recognition during the 2019 Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology annual conference in Maryland. The president of SIOP, Dr. Talya Bauer gave out these prestigious awards to those who have made substantial contributions to the combined science and practice of I-O psychology.
According to SIOP “Nominations were open to the full range of members, from associate to Fellow, and evaluation criteria included the nominee’s contributions to the alignment of science and practice, the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and positive impact on work practices in organizations. A task force chaired by Donald Truxillo and including Frederik Anseel, Kathryn Dekas, and Shonna Waters made the final selection using the following criteria.
-
- The impact of the nominee’s work on both (1) the science of I-O psychology and (2) the practice of I-O psychology, affecting the creation and dissemination of knowledge as well as workers and work practices in organizations.
- Stature in both the practitioner and the scientific communities as demonstrated by notable contributions to both.
- History of conducting research in applied settings that has led to the creation of knowledge (e.g., pilot testing new programs/interventions, extending the knowledge base).
- A pattern of aligning the interests of the practice and research communities with each other through practice, research, writing, and behavior and thus modeling the scientist-practitioner model.
- A noteworthy pattern of disseminating knowledge (e.g., training and informing others) about methods, procedures, and practices through presentations, publications in a variety of outlets, workshops, and so forth.
The plaque awarded by SIOP read “Shreya Sarkar-Barney, Human Capital Growth, is recognized for translating I-O science into practice in academic, multinational, and global settings. For example, she has translated an array of I-O meta-analyses into integrated talent management courses for use by non psychologists, thus making our I-O knowledge and findings easy to understand and to apply among non-IOs.”
Dr. Sarkar-Barney expressed gratitude for this recognition and said “it is the collaborative effort of the HCG team that has allowed us to establish a name in the field of talent management science translation.”
