Leader Development


Leader development refers to the activities related to improving the competence of those who play leading roles in organizations. It involves identifying those who have the potential to lead and supporting their growth through the right set of training and experiences. Effective leadership in any organization contributes to the accomplishment of its mission. Good leaders provide vision and direction, which helps maintain the health and vitality of the organization and ultimately may determine its very survival. Effective leadership development can mitigate critical risks that threaten organizations continuity.

Course description

In this course, participants learn about models of effective leader behaviors, such as situational leadership theory and full range leadership theory.  Additionally, they will gain knowledge on leader development programs, including accelerated leader development and charismatic leadership training.  The course includes special topics on globalization and gender in leadership and current and future trends in leadership development.

Course objectives

In this course, participants will build the capability to:

  • help others understand the unique characteristics of leaders
  • support the selection of assessments tools to predict leadership success
  • support the design of leadership development programs
  • support the selection of vendors for deploying leadership development programs
  • support the design of a training program to grow charismatic leaders
  • support the deployment of leadership development programs
  • support progress tracking of participants
  • design mechanisms to accelerate leader development

    Assessment: Each course includes an end of course assessment (quiz) and assignments to gauge learning and opportunity to practice the skills. To promote learning, participants receive feedback on right and wrong answers, as well as, guidance for reviewing the relevant sections of the course.

    Discussion Boards: All participants will have access to the community board on this topic.  The discussion boards can be used to post questions, start a new discussion or seek clarification from a mentor.

    Other Learning Activities: Participants will have access to games, flashcards, glossary, bibliography developed to engage with the content in a fun way and assist with learning.

    An interactive 3.5+ hour online course with case studies, assignment, tools, and activities.
    Access duration for one course is one month.  If purchased as part of a certification package, access duration is set by the package plan.
    Participants who complete the interactive lesson and pass the course quiz will earn a certificate of completion.
