Compensation and Total Rewards

 

The compensation process is a motivational tool used for administering rewards, recognizing employees and retaining talent. Employees take cues about performance expectations by takingnote of who gets recognized and promoted. Thus, this process serves as an important mechanism to communicate what is valued by the organization. In many organizations, compensation can account for up to 40% of the operating budget. Disciplined compensation practices are not only important for ensuring employee productivity but also to control costs.

Course description

In this course, participants gain an understanding of how talent management systems can create better organizations, better talent, and better career.  They gain knowledge of what talent management is, how organizations benefit from talent management, characteristics of a high impact integrated talent management system and industry practices in talent management.  The course highlights the benefits and costly consequences of not focusing on TM practices.

Course objectives

In this course, participants will build the capability to:

  • perform a job evaluation
  • use compensation practices to support organizational objectives and business strategies
  • outline the key considerations in conducting a market pay analysis
  • develop the compensation structure
  • develop pay bands for job families or broad bands for all jobs within the organization
  • effectively communicate  the company’s compensation philosophy
  • outline the key considerations for designing a sales compensation systems
  • decide when to use long-term or short-term incentives

Assessment:  Each course includes an end-of-course assessment (quiz) and assignments to gauge learning and the opportunity to practice the skills. To promote learning, participants receive feedback on right and wrong answers, as well as, guidance for reviewing the relevant sections of the course.

Discussion Boards: All participants will have access to the community board on this topic.  The discussion boards can be used to post questions, start a new discussion or seek clarification from a mentor.

Other Learning Activities: Participants will have access to games, flashcards, glossary, bibliography developed to engage with the content in a fun way and assist with learning.

An interactive 3+ hour online course with case studies, assignment, tools, and activities.
